What does Tissue Viability mean?

- Managing wounds in the most effective way to optimise healing.
- Prevention and recurrence of pressure ulcers
Tissue viability can be described as the prevention of damage in healthy tissues, and management of acute and chronic wounds.
Role of Tissue Viability team
To provide world class wound care and pressure ulcer prevention to our patients and to Enable, Empower, Encourage and lead our staff to do the same.
- Advise on the prevention and management of pressure ulcers.
- Advise on the management of complex wounds.
- Improve communications between community staff and other healthcare professionals.
- Disseminate information and education via link nurses.
- Provide education for staff.
- Evaluate new products for pressure ulcer prevention and wound management.
- Co-ordinate and report incidence of pressure ulcers and common themes.
- Maintain policies and guidance relevant to wound management & pressure ulcer prevention.
