LUHFT’s Charity aims to enhance our patient and staff experience by providing funding to:
- Improve the care environment and patients’ experience.
- Provide medical equipment/clinical systems that are over and above minimum standards.
- Fund research, innovation or education programmes that directly contribute to the care of LUHFT patients.
- Fund specific staff health and wellbeing projects.
A brief snapshot of LUH Charity funded projects include:
- Home dialysis machines to allow patients to spend time with their friends and families instead of attending hospital at least three times a week.
- The Francis Centres at Broadgreen and Aintree that provide dedicated areas for dementia patients.
- Improved the quiet rooms in the Breast Cancer Clinics at Aintree and Royal
- Bed Buddies for the new Stroke Wards at Aintree, allowing family members to stay by patients’ beds during the night.
- Activities equipment for Trauma and Orthopaedic wards
- Staff Celebration Awards and festive lunch
- A Christmas celebration to thank our volunteers for their hard work.
LUHFT's Charity and YOU
We rely on our staff to spread the word about Liverpool University Hospitals’ Charity, helping patients and visitors who wish to support us through signposting and also doing their own volunteering and taking part in fundraising events.
We also rely on staff to spot where the Charity can make a difference for our patients, their loved ones and our workforce and taking the lead on projects and applying for Charitable funding.
Fundraising for non-Trust Charities
We are immensely proud of the dedication and generosity displayed by our staff in supporting charitable causes both within and outside of the Trust, especially for our partner charities who deliver exceptional support to our patients and their loved ones that are undergoing treatment with us.
As part of our commitment to due diligence, transparency, and ethical governance, we kindly request that all staff inform the UHL Charity Fundraising Team before undertaking any fundraising activities for internal or external charities. This ensures that we can:
- Ensure that there is no calendar clash in terms of promotions/campaigns/spaces
- Support their efforts appropriately and provide guidance on best practices.
- Avoid any potential conflicts of interest (where a staff member has a specific interest in the selected charity)
- Maintain clear and transparent communication about fundraising activities across the organisation.
We ask staff to please reach out to the UHL Charity Fundraising Team at fundraising
More information
The process to apply for charitable funding has changed and now couldn’t be easier!
To learn more, we have developed an information pack which describes the process, what you need to do and what happens once you’ve applied. Check the checklist before you submit your bid!
You must inform your line manager before starting your application.
There is only one application form now for any size of funding. You can apply using our e-form at this link. You can save your form and come back to it later if you need to.
You can also complete the word version here and email to charity.
Make sure that you email any requested documents, such as job descriptions or equality impact assessments to charity.
There are three grant making bodies which meet regularly:
- Small Grant Group: meets monthly and assesses applications <£10k inc VAT.
- Grant Making Panel: meets every other month and assesses applications >£10k and <£50k inc VAT.
- Charitable Funds Committee: meets every quarter and assesses all applications >£50k inc VAT – you will also have to attend this meeting to answer any questions the Committee might have. You will be given a date and time and you and/or a colleague can attend by MS Teams.
You will be notified of the outcome by our Grants Management team who will send you a requisition form to complete – please ensure you do this as soon as possible and as completely as you can, this is the biggest cause of delays in staff accessing their goods and services.
The Grants Management team will raise a purchase order for you.
If your application is >£10k the Fundraising Team will contact you in the future to gather the impact of your project.
