Pay award update 2024/25

The government has recently announced a 5.5% consolidated pay increase for all Agenda for Change staff, retroactive to 1 April 2024. This decision follows the recommendations from the NHS Pay Review Body (NHS PRB). An updated version of the NHS Terms and Conditions of Service (TCS) handbook has been published.

Payment in October:

The 2024/2025 Agenda for Change (AFC) national Pay award will be processed in October 2024, and all associated arrears will be processed for payment on the 28 October 2024.

Installments for backpay:

Should you wish to opt into having your pay arrears paid in 6 equal monthly installments (substantive staff only) you will need to complete the Opt In form here. The deadline for the form submission is the 8 October 2024. Any forms received after this cannot be processed.

Any managers who have staff that cannot access either a PC please assist your team in submitting their request should they wish to apply for equal installments.

Bank staff

For Bank only pay award arrears, these will be processed and paid within October 2024. The actual pay date is to be confirmed by our payroll provider in due course, and a further update will be made.

2024/2025 National pay Award

The NHS Staff Council has also ratified the government decision to add intermediate points to bands 8a and above.

Annex 2 of the NHS Terms and Conditions of Service (TCS) Handbook has been updated to incorporate this change. In addition, the existing pay award resources have been updated to reflect this agreement and a pay advisory notice published. You can also see the joint statement from the NHS Staff Council.

This change is effective from 1 April 2024.

Electronic Staff Record (ESR) colleagues have received the detail of the intermediate pay points and have confirmed the increase to salaries and retrospective pay (backdated to 1 April 2024) will be paid in November salaries, subject to successful ESR development and testing.

In Summary

All AfC will receive the 5.5% award and backdated pay in October 2024 (inc. staff in bands 8a, 8b, 8c, 8d, and 9).

Staff in bands 8a, 8b, 8c, 8d, and 9 who are due to receive the intermediate pay point, will receive the increased salary and backdated pay in November 2024 subject to successful ESR development and testing.

Any staff who reached year 2 prior to 1 April 2024 will only have the new 2 year pay point awarded from 1 April 2024.

We are still awaiting confirmation from ESR and/or NHS Employers on the requirement of a pay progression meeting to move to year 2.

Further updates will be provided when received.
