LUHFT is once again collaborating with the University of Liverpool to launch the ‘Dr Ronald Finn Fellowship’ programme, designed to support senior Clinical Staff to lead transformative clinical research.

Dr Ronald Finn (1930-2004) was a consultant physician at the then Royal Liverpool University Hospital and an alumnus of the University of Liverpool. His work had a major impact on the health of newborns, showed that collaborative work between the two organisations could lead to major research-based healthcare improvements.

The new fellowships attracted a large number of high quality applicants, from which five exemplary clinical researchers were appointed: These were

  • Dr Hassan Burhan, Consultant Respiratory Physician
  • Dr Andrew Davison, Consultant Clinical Scientist in Clinical Biochemistry
  • Dr Yamini Krishna, Consultant Ophthalmic Pathologist
  • Dr Ned Gilbert-Kawai, Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia
  • Mr Rishi Mukherjee, Consultant Emergency General Surgeon

Professor Terry Jones, Director of Research and Innovation at LUHFT said: “We are delighted to enter into this exciting collaboration with the University of Liverpool with the aim of providing the correct academic environment for highly-promising researchers to fulfil their own academic potential and in doing so, strengthen the research impact in clinical areas of strategic importance to both organisations.

“These posts are critical in driving the agenda for LUHFT to become a nationally leading research active NHS organisation.”
