This is a friendly reminder about our responsibilities as NHS employees in relation to possible conflicts of interest arising at work. We know they’re unavoidable in a complex system like ours, and we want to help you deal with them in the way they should be. Conflict of interest is something that we all need to consider, no matter our role or banding.
You may not know what a conflict of interest is. These are some examples of when a conflict could arise:
- you receive a gift, hospitality, sponsorship, or payment from an NHS contactor/supplier or pharmaceutical company
- you own a company that could or does business with the NHS
- you have another job e.g., work shifts via a hospital bank (this includes banks shifts at LUHFT) or through an employment agency, or undertake private medical work
- you give unfair advantage to family and friends, such as giving them NHS employment.
All staff are required to declare any potential conflicts of interest via Electronic Staff Record (ESR) at the earliest opportunity (and in any event within 28 days of the possible conflict arising).
Details of the Managing Conflict of Interest policy and the process for submitting an annual declaration and/or any on-going declarations can be found on the intranet using the following link; Conflicts (Declarations) of Interests
Emails requesting annual declarations for the calendar year 2023 will be sent to all staff deemed ‘decision makers’ from 27 November 2023.
