As a Trust, we fully respect the rights of union members to take industrial action that has been balloted for and recommended by their trade union.

Each Trust and trade union has a legal duty to ensure that during such action emergency care or (including some cancer care) is protected. Hospital Leadership Teams are finalising plans for how essential services will be maintained during the expected industrial action which will need to be agreed in partnership with union representatives.

Employees do not have to inform their manager of their intentions with regards to whether they are participating in industrial action. We would urge employees to staff intending to participate to inform their line manager in order to enable appropriate planning to take place with the interests of patients in mind.

We recognise that our colleagues want to deliver the best care possible and the decision to vote for industrial action will have been personally and professionally challenging for members. If you need any confidential and personal support during this period, please contact Occupational Health.

As a Trust, our values include being caring and fair and we will all respect the actions our colleagues take, whether they are taking part in industrial action or not.

The British Medical Association (BMA) has announced that junior doctors across the country will strike from 7am on Thursday 27 June to 7am on Tuesday 2 July.

We would like to reiterate that this is a national dispute and not a dispute with the Trust.

The BMA has confirmed the picket line will take place at the Royal Liverpool Hospital, West Derby Street entrance, on Thursday 27 June from 9am until 11am.

As a Trust we respect that the industrial action is lawful action and we will ensure support is in place for all staff, regardless of whether they are in a Trade Union or not and whether they participate in industrial action or not.

This will inevitably be a challenging time, but we wanted to reassure colleagues that every necessary preparation has been made to ensure we can continue to provide the best care possible to our patients.

Please remember that the Staff Support Offer is available to all colleagues, whether you are taking part in industrial action or not.
