Awards Criteria
The Heart of LUHFT staff awards recognise and reward our great people who have made an exceptional contribution to life at LUHFT throughout the year, with categories reflecting the Trust’s values and objectives.
The categories which are open for nominations are:
- The Care Award (Team or Individual)
- The Fairness Award (Team or Individual)
- The Innovation Award (Team or Individual)
- Leading Light Award (Individual)
- Aintree Team of the Year (Team)
- Broadgreen Team of the Year (Team)
- LCL Team of the Year (Team)
- Royal Team of the Year (Team)
- Corporate Team of the Year (Team)
T = Team I = Individual
All awards will be judged against:
- Specific criteria for the particular award
- Trust values and behaviours: We are Caring, Fair, Innovative
The Care Award
This award aims to recognise teams or individuals who have been tirelessly focusing on creating a culture where we are always kind and compassionate to ourselves and others to be able to work together to benefit the delivery of great care or an enhanced staff experience. This award is open to all temporary and bank staff, community staff and clinical and non-clinical colleagues.
The judges will be looking for evidence of:
- Teams and individuals who recognise and appreciate each other to support each other to succeed
- Individuals seeking to improve team contributions
- Individuals speaking up about improving processes to benefit patient care
- A demonstration of teams and individuals working together with pride
- A demonstration of professionalism to deliver the best standards of care for our patients
- A demonstration of improved patient safety and experience
- Team members living the Trust values
- Examples of outstanding care and compassion delivered to our patients and their families, or fellow colleagues
The Fairness Award
This award will recognise a team or individual that has consistently demonstrated an open and honest approach, treating people equally, encouraging colleagues to speak up and embracing diversity. This award is open to all temporary and bank staff, community staff and clinical and non-clinical colleagues.
The judges will be looking for evidence of:
- Teams and individuals working together to champion diversity
- Individuals seeking to improve team contributions
- Teams and individuals working together to support personal and professional development of members
- A demonstration of improved patient safety and experience
- An open and honest attitude
- Team members living the Trust values
- Demonstrating evidence that there has been learning from the experience
- Individuals encouraging colleagues to speak up
The Innovation Award
This award recognises a team or individual that has made a big improvement through research or innovation. They may have made changes to the way they work, developed or undertaken service/quality improvement, education or training for the benefit of staff, patients, the department, or the Trust as a whole. They may have carried out or published innovative research or been involved with clinical trials. This award is open to all temporary and bank staff, community staff and clinical and non-clinical colleagues.
The judges will be looking for evidence of:
- The improvement made
- The benefits of the improvement
- A demonstration of improved patient safety and experience
- Team members living the Trust values
Leading Light Award
This award aims to recognise an individual that has demonstrated great compassionate leadership, insight and application to support improved team culture or staff morale, improved team or partnership working, or improved mental health, wellbeing, work/life balance or equality, diversity and inclusion. This award is open to all temporary and bank staff, community staff and clinical and non-clinical colleagues.
Judges will be looking for evidence of:
- Exemplary compassionate leadership
- Visionary thinking
- A demonstration of how leadership has improved patient safety and experience
- The ability to inspire and motivate others
- Role modelling of the Trust values
This award is open to staff from all disciplines and departments, in formal leadership roles or who have played an active role in leading an initiative or project.
Aintree/ Broadgreen/ LCL/ Royal and Corporate Team of the Year
This award will recognise a team that has consistently demonstrated good team working to make an exceptional contribution. Candidates for this award will also be taken from the winning entries of Team of the Month. This award is open to all temporary and bank staff, community staff and clinical and non-clinical colleagues.
This includes established clinical and non-clinical teams, and teams brought together to work on a specific project or initiative.
The judges will be looking for evidence of:
- Teams working together to deliver outstanding healthcare
- Teams seeking to improve quality, safety or experience for the benefit of patients and colleagues
- A demonstration of teams working to improve patient safety and experience
- Teams working together to support personal and professional development of members
- A flexible approach by team members
- Team members living the Trust values
Awards will also be presented on the night for the following categories:
Employee of the Year
This award will recognise an individual who has made an exceptional contribution to LUHFT achieving our common purpose of working together to deliver outstanding healthcare. Candidates for this award will be taken from the winning entries of Employee of the Month.
The judges will be looking for evidence that the individual:
- Demonstrates the Trust values on a daily basis
- Demonstrates working towards improving patient safety and experience
- Goes above the call of duty (either directly or indirectly related to patient care)
- Has a special rapport with fellow employees or patients and their families
- Develops initiatives to enhance life at the Trust for the benefit of patients/relatives/colleagues
Volunteer of the Year
This award will recognise a volunteer in the Trust who has worked tirelessly and generously given their free time, enthusiasm and energy to help improve NHS services, facilities and support for patients, visitors and their families and/or staff.
The judges will be looking for evidence that the individual:
- Has made a significant impact on the people and service they support
- Has demonstrated a strong contribution towards improving patient safety and experience
- Has demonstrated a positive attitude, regularly contributing to the Trust
- Has been an exemplary role model for volunteering and upholding the Trust values
Patient’s Champion (T or I) Public Vote
Nominated and voted for by the public this award is to recognise a team or an individual who has made a significant impact at some point during the last year. They may have provided exceptional care or services at a difficult time, or in a difficult situation. This could be a ‘one off’’ – going the extra mile, and/or showing outstanding initiative.
The judges will be looking for evidence of the following criteria:
- Exceptional quality, above and beyond what is expected
- Exceptional leadership and/or inspiration, a role model to others
- A demonstration of improving patient safety and experience
- Initiative and drive in a difficult situation/at a difficult time/going the extra mile
- Enthusiasm and a commitment to our Trust and our values
