The Royal Liverpool University Hospital recently hosted a senior delegation from Singapore's healthcare sector, including representatives from Tan Tock Seng Hospital, the National Healthcare Group and the Ministry of Health Holdings.

The delegation was welcomed by Professor John Brennan, Interim Managing Director for Liverpool Clinical Laboratories and Group Deputy Chief Medical Officer, followed by a strategic overview of the Royal Liverpool Hospital, presented by Executive Managing Director Natalie Hudson. Singapore colleagues shared valuable insights regarding their healthcare system developments and strategic priorities.

The morning programme featured discussions on hospital design specification, commissioning methodology, and digital infrastructure strategy.

Paul Fitzpatrick, Director of Estates and Facilities at NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group, said: "It was a huge honour to welcome the Singapore delegation to the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. We were able to share our journey and the challenges we overcame to successfully open the hospital in 2022. This experience created opportunities to improve the facilities before opening and ensure we provide an exceptional environment for both staff and patients. We also discussed our ambitious plans to make the site Carbon Neutral in the future and how we're working with local system partners to deliver this key objective. These international exchanges are invaluable as we learn from each other to continually improve healthcare environments and patient care."

The afternoon programme included guided tours of key clinical environments including the Theatre Complex, Outpatient Department, Liverpool Clinical Laboratories, single occupancy rooms and the Clinical Research Facility.

The visit culminated in a formal exchange where Professor Kong Choong Tang presented a commemorative gift to Natalie Hudson on behalf of the Singapore delegation.

The Trust extends appreciation to the Singapore delegation and to all clinical and operational colleagues who contributed to this significant international exchange. This collaborative programme supports ongoing work to enhance hospital design principles, evidence-based clinical practice, and patient-centred care delivery through structured international knowledge sharing.
