Meet Oghale Eboh, a Research Nurse at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital (RLUH), who has been awarded a Global Majority Fellowship by NHS England, a programme aimed at giving staff leadership experience whilst they continue their clinical role.

As a child, Oghale was inspired to pursue a nursing career by her mum, who was a nurse and midwife. She began her nursing journey in Nigeria, where she attended a specialist Nursing school. After her studies, Oghale achieved a diploma in General Nursing and went on to work in a in several nursing positions.

It was then Oghale knew she wanted to continue her studies and went on to attend the University of Sunderland, where she completed a degree in Adult Nursing. 

After working as a nurse during the COVID-19 pandemic, Oghale became interested in clinical research and became part the team in the NIHR Liverpool Clinical Research Facility (NIHR CRF) based at RLUH.

Oghale said: “I worked as an intensive care nurse for over 10 years and loved it. Taking part in research as part of my career has taken me on my next journey and I was thrilled to get my post-graduate certificate in Clinical Research Delivery from the University of Exeter.”

After submitting her application for the Global Majority Fellowship, Oghale was invited to interview, taking part in teamwork sessions where a panel of interviewers observed her potential as a leader. Following an intensive day, Oghale was awarded the fellowship which begins later this year.

She added: “I am really excited to take part in this fellowship, shadowing senior nursing staff to help me build on my skills as a leader.”
