Professor Stephen Kaye, Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, has been appointed chair of The Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (AoMRC) Workforce Committee.

The AoMRC is made up of members from all Medical Royal Colleges in the UK and has major influence on how public health concerns are addressed.

During his three-year tenure as Chair, Prof Kaye will oversee exploration into new forms of healthcare, shape policy for medics and aid the recruitment and retention of doctors across the NHS.

Prof Kaye will be vacating his position as Vice President of The Royal College of Ophthalmologists, to fulfil his new duties and his clinical commitments.

Prof Kaye said: “It is a huge honour to be appointed to this role and for my peers to have placed their trust in me to help improve the quality of our services and the care we provide to patients.

“I am extremely excited to get started and hope to make a real difference in the years to come.”

Dr Jeanette Dickson, Chair of The Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, said: “The Academy is delighted to have appointed Professor Kaye as the new Chair of the Academy Workforce Committee.

“Workforce continues to be an important subject that is critical to The Academy and its members. I look forward to working closely with Professor Kaye over the coming years.”
