The first platinum LQA ratings have been presented to teams at Aintree University Hospital, recognising the consistent delivery of excellent patient care and teamwork.
After receiving gold LQA ratings for three consecutive years, the Neck of Femur Unit (NOFU) and the Sefton Suite have both achieved platinum LQA status.
Liverpool Hospitals Quality Assessment (LQA) is our internal review system. It measures the quality of care our wards deliver to patients against 14 care standards, including safety, nutrition, infection control and safeguarding.
NOFU is a 24-bed admission area for patients with hip fractures who have been transferred from A&E and are being prepared for surgery by a multidisciplinary team.
Shannon Senior, NOFU Ward Manager, said: “This platinum status is a reflection of the dedication and hard work of every single member of our team. It is proof that by working together, we can achieve the highest standards of care - care that we would want for our own families.”
Dr Peter Turkington, Executive Managing Director for Aintree, presented the team with their certificate. He said: “This team continues to improve year on year and they should all be proud to gain platinum LQA status. They have shown how supporting and encouraging each other on the ward creates positive morale and motivation to develop, which reflects in the improved patient experience.”
The Sefton Suite is a 16-bed unit that cares for patients undergoing a range of surgical specialities.
Colin Hont, Deputy Chief Nurse, said: “It’s clear that effective leadership and teamwork have created the very best environment to provide safe care for our patients, while also supporting colleagues to continue to develop and learn. The whole team should be incredibly proud of this achievement.”
Marie Bennett, Sefton Suite Ward Manager, said: “We are exceptionally proud of our LQA platinum rating and I couldn't wish for a better team to lead. The commitment, hard work and professionalism from everyone to deliver care to our patients is outstanding.”
Jenny Taylor, Director of Nursing for Aintree, presented the Sefton Suite team with their certificate. Speaking about both of the teams, she said: “These two teams are inspiring us all at Aintree and I want to congratulate them both on becoming the first recipients of the platinum LQA status. They both demonstrate how good leadership, effective teamwork and a focus on patient-centred care and continuous improvement helps us deliver the best experience possible for our patients.”
