Our SWAN specialist end of life and bereavement care nurses from University Hospitals of Liverpool Group are supporting people in the community who have experienced grief and loss.

As part of National Grief Awareness Week, 2-8 December 2024, the SWAN Specialist End of Life and Bereavement Care Team are hosting a series of Bereavement Cafes to provide a listening ear for anyone who may be struggling with grief after a bereavement or an event.

Maria Guerin and the bereavement team are hosting Bereavement cafes to provide support for those suffering with grief.jpegMaria Guerin, SWAN End of Life and Bereavement Care Matron, said: “Our specialist nurses provide compassionate care and support for those at the end of their life and that includes their families and carers too. The Bereavement Cafes that we’ve set up are a place where anyone who is experiencing grief can come and talk to us and we can signpost people to community services what can help them too.

“We know a lot of people are struggling, especially at this time of year, so please pop along to come and talk to us so we can provide the support you might need.”

Drop in to any of the Bereavement Cafes, which will take place within our hospitals and in the community:

  • Broadgreen Hospital: Friday 29 November, main entrance, 10am to 2pm
  • Royal Liverpool University Hospital: Monday 2 December, lower ground floor, 10am to 2pm
  • People’s Place, Everton In The Community: Thursday 5 December, 2.30pm-6.30pm
  • Aintree University Hospital: Friday 6 December, PACT office, 10am to 2pm

The team can offer support continually throughout the year, so if you’ve missed one of the drop-in Bereavement Cafes you can find out more about the services the team provide here or contact them on 0151 529 2098.
