BBC One’s The One Show recently visited LUHFT to find out more about what our teams are doing to help care for patients this winter.

Presenter Kevin Duala spent the morning with colleagues in the Royal’s geriatric same day emergency care (SDEC) service, where he interviewed a range of staff and also our colleagues at North West Ambulance Service.

The geriatric SDEC service enables eligible frail patients to bypass the Emergency Department and be seen for rapid assessment and treatment, with the aim of them returning home on the same day, avoiding admission to hospital.

He also visited Broadgreen’s Reablement Assessment Hub, learning more about the work colleagues are doing to prepare patients for discharge once they no longer require hospital care.

Ward 7 has been supporting patients from across the Trust with their rehabilitation and to maximise their independence, which can enable more patients to return home rather than into residential care or a bed in the community. The ward offers daily physiotherapy and activities such as arts and crafts, games and a bed disco, all aiming to promote mental and physical agility.
